Marvel Tech Launches the World’s First Outer Space Gene Bank

Shanghai, China, October 25, 2018, at 6:57AM /Prexly/ — The history of life science research and space exploration has reached a new milestone. The world's first outer space gene bank, numbered DSB-01, was launched at 6:57AM at the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in Taiyuan, China. Successfully entering an orbit 950-km above the earth, the gene bank is attached to the Space Proving Platform (SPP) on the space exploration Long March 4 series rocket of the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation.
As the population of humankind continues to increase at unprecedented rates, earth science experts believe that the planet will become crowded and inhabitable in three or four hundred years. Depletion of the earth's resources is also expected to bring about various conflicts. Many are asking, "what is the future of humankind?" A better question may be, "where is the future of humankind?" Famous entrepreneur and founder of SpaceX, Elon Musk, believes the answer is found in outer space. He plans to ship one million people to Mars, so the issue of interstellar emigration has emerged as a new challenge facing humankind.
At the beginning of 2018, Shanghai Marvel Technology Company, Ltd. (Marvel Tech) was founded by Mr Lun Feng, the famous Chinese entrepreneur and Chairman of F&E Group; Mr Hai Lin Li, Chairman of Dongdu International Group; Mr Yue Fei Xu, Chairman of Shanghai LONGKR Technology, along with top aerospace and genetic scientists. Marvel Tech specializes in life science research and space technology exploration with the mission of "creating a new civilization for humankind", through the establishment, long-term management and operation of a million-level outer space gene bank. When future technology and other relevant conditions are ripe, the Genetic Lyophilized Powder (GLP) from the gene bank can be transported to Mars or other suitable planets, where a new human civilization can be created with future genetic technology.

Marvel Tech's first human outer space gene bank project, codenamed DSPACE, derives its name from "DNA in space". The project preserves participants' unique genome sequencing data in GLP, which contains their entire unique genetic information in a white powder and protected inside a capsule. The capsules are placed securely on the SPP and launched into space for conducting ground-based simulated space environment experiments. Safely in orbit in outer space, the GLP stores real data, resists cosmic radiation and high-energy ions, and permanently preserves human seeds (genes), providing strong support for future interstellar immigration and gene regeneration.
On September 28, 2018, Mr. Lun Feng, the founder of the DSPACE project, presented the project to more than 100 guests from all over the world, along with domestic and foreign media at the Shanghai Summit of Abundance360, the world-renowned technology summit.

In August 2018, the team of DSPACE project nurses collected 20ml of blood from eight volunteers. Afterward, the blood was preserved by EDTA anticoagulation vacuum blood collection tube, and transported by the biological cold chain company to China National Gene Bank, followed by the National Gene Bank. Scientists used magnetic beads to extract genes (deoxyribonucleic acid) and then used vacuum freeze-drying to prepare GLPs that can be stored for long periods of time.
The eight volunteers' GLPs were placed in the space gene bank DSB-01 with maximum temperature resistance to cosmic radiation and high-energy particles. The SPP also has ground communication and independent temperature control. The eight volunteers who participated in the trial were rigorously screened and selected from different regions, industries and people of different ages in China. Based on the height of the orbital space gene bank DSB-01, the eight participants' GLPs will maintain a safe orbit for a maximum of 975 years, and their genes are also the first human genes to enter space storage in history.
